GET INVOLVED

Whether you’re a Neighbourhood Centre, an organisation or an individual, you can get involved in Neighbourhood Centre Week by connecting with people in a statewide celebration while shining a light on the significant impact of Neighbourhood Centres.

FOR NEIGHBOURHOOD CENTRES

Neighbourhood Centres get involved in celebrations in different creative ways, depending on their community and capacity.

Neighbourhood Centres can choose to get involved by:

  • Some Neighbourhood Centres choose to host a free community meal, a free community art/mural event or hold their open day during the week and use the posters, social tiles and other resources provided to promote their event.

Some Centres celebrate by incorporating celebrations and Neighbourhood Centre Week messages into existing activities and programs planned for the week.

Some Centres are also taking the event opportunity to recruit volunteers and fundraise.

  • Share the social media tiles provided with the hashtags #NCW2025 and #NeighbourhoodCentreWeek2025 during Neighbourhood Centre Week.

You could also share posts directly from the Neighbourhood Centres Queensland Facebook page to your Neighbourhood Centre’s social media pages.

  • Acknowledging the hard work and dedication of the people in your team is important.
Some Neighbourhood Centres organise positive team experiences such as visits to other Neighbourhood Centres, write letters of thanks, hold mini award ceremonies or create opportunities/ invitations to community members to pass on their thanks.

  • Set up a space where people can write messages or draw pictures about their experiences with the Centre or community. This often inspires storytelling and thanks!

You could download and print the Activity Printouts to prompt people to write their messages.

Some Centres like to take photos of community members with their messages.

  • Neighbourhood Centre Week can create a great reason to invite your local councillor, state minister or federal representative to visit your Centre and see the significant impact of your Centre first-hand.

It can also be a good time to talk about issues affecting your community and how they can support your Centre’s work.

FOR INDIVIDUALS

Individuals can get involved by:

  • Share the social media tiles provided with the hashtags #NCW2025 and #NeighbourhoodCentreWeek2025 during Neighbourhood Centre Week.

You could also share posts directly from the Neighbourhood Centres Queensland Facebook page or the page of your local Neighbourhood Centre.

  • Participate in any events or celebrations organised by your local Centre to show your support and learn more about the work they do and how you can get involved.

  • Contribute to your local commuity by volunteering through your Neighbourhood Centre.

Ask your local Neighbourhood Centre about ways you can help.

  • Talk to your neighbours, friends, family and community members about the importance of Neighbourhood Centres and the role they play in supporting the community.

Neighbourhood Centres welcome everyone, and people in your circle might benefit from connecting with their local Centre to contribute to their community, build new relationships, access information or to seek support.

FOR BUSINESSES

Businesses can get involved by:

  • Find out how you can collaborate and contribute to your community through your local Neighbourhood Centre.

You can find your local Neighbourhood Centre using the find-a-centre map the NCQ website here, and contact the Centre directly to discuss what works.

  • Offer your business or organisation's space, equipment, or services to support existing events run by your local Neighbourhood Centre.

Organise a special event or fundrasier where a portion of the proceeds go toward supporting the work of your local Neighbourhood Centre or the delivery of a program/project in the community.

You could also sponsor an event, or offer to sponsor print materials/the costs of promoting events to help raise awareness.

  • Promote Neighbourhood Centre Week through your organisation’s email newsletters, website, or social media pages to spread awareness to a broader audience.

FOR SCHOOLS AND NON-PROFITS

Schools and non-profit organisations can get involved by:

  • Run classroom discussions or workshops about the role of your local Neighbourhood Centres in supporting your community. Encourage students at your school or staff at your organisation to think about ways they can support their local Centre or community.

  • Connect with your local Neighbourhood Centre to explore opportunities for ongoing collaboration beyond Neighbourhood Centre Week. If your organisation offers relevant services, consider providing in-kind support, such as mentoring, training, or shared resources.

  • Connect with your local Neighbourhood Centre to explore opportunities for fundraising and donations drives. Many Centres run emergency food relief programs that community members can donate food to support, or school supplies to support families doing it tough. Check with your Centre about what would help before donating or fundraising.

  • Ask your local Neighbourhood Centre how your students or staff can volunteer to support the local community projects and programs they run. Neighbourhood Centres often need volunteers, and some programs such as the packing of Christmas hampers each year are reliant on large numbers of volunteers to help.
